Three members of Rygor Group’s people team are lacing up their running shoes to participate in the London Landmark’s Half Marathon on 6 April 2025 in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to their hearts and one of the company’s 2024 employee-nominated Charities of the Year.

The trio, comprising Kate Ruberry-Shoemack, Samantha Bettridge and Emily Walsh, have dedicated themselves to this challenge, not only as a personal fitness goal but also to give back to the community. They aim to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, an organisation known for its unwavering support for individuals and families affected by cancer.

“This challenge originally came about because Sam and Emily had entered the ballot to do the London Marathon in 2025, but unfortunately did not get a place. We set about looking for other options and were thrilled to find that Macmillan Cancer Support had charity places on the London Landmark Half Marathon, which was perfect as the organisation was one of our 2024 Charities of the Year at Rygor Group. Unfortunately, we know that cancer touches so many lives, but we know the incredible difference Macmillan’s care and resources make,” said Kate Ruberry-Shoemack, director of people & communications at Rygor Group.

“We’re proud, and frankly a little terrified, to take on this challenge together! But we know that every step we take, we are fundraising to support the amazing work Macmillan does. This will be our finale of fundraising for any of our 2024 Charities of the Year. Between us, we aim to raise at least £1,050 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which we will add to our company’s overall 2024 charity fundraising total of £6470.99,” Kate added.

As the new year starts, the trio who have been gently easing themselves into exercise throughout the second half of 2024, are now geared up for the next 12 weeks of rigorous training.

Samantha Bettridge, people relations manager, at Rygor Group, said: “I’m running the LLHM for Macmillan Cancer Support, driven by a commitment for personal growth and to contribute to a cause that touches so many lives. It’s a reminder that even small efforts, when combined with those of others, can make a meaningful difference. It will be an honour to play a small role in contributing to this.”

Emily Walsh, Rygor Group’s people team administrator, said: “I am participating in the LLHM to support the incredible work of Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan provides invaluable support to those facing cancer, which makes a positive impact on their lives. At the same time, I am using this opportunity to challenge myself, push my limits, and test my resilience, both physically and mentally.”

Supporters can contribute to the team’s fundraising efforts through their official donation page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/rygor-people-team-halfmarathon. Every donation, big or small, will help Macmillan provide essential services such as cancer information, financial guidance, and emotional support. Atalia O’Leary fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are so grateful for the long-standing commitment of the staff at Rygor Group. In 2024 they chose us as one of their Charities of the Year and we appreciate the time, effort and generosity that the staff have shown us over that time. The continued support of Kate, Samantha and Emily in taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon will help us to continue our vital work and support more people affected by cancer.

“Sadly, the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever. At Macmillan, we know how cancer can affect everything. We’re here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who take on these brilliant challenges and fundraise for us. Good luck to Kate, Samantha and Emily. We will all be cheering you on,” Atalia added.

The London Landmarks Half Marathon will see thousands of participants running through the capital’s iconic landmarks. The Rygor people team hopes their efforts will inspire others to take on challenges and support causes that make a difference.
